From the time I was all grown up, I’ve heard the rumors about what happened to
us greyhounds after we lost races. We heard some really awful and terrible rumors
that I didn’t want to even think about, but some of the shared whisperings among
us at night were about beautiful and happy places that sounded too good to be true.
A place called RETIREMENT! We heard wonderful things about retirement.
From time to time, one of us was sent to the place called retirement so I
decided one morning after running around a track chasing the same stupid bunny
that I never seem to catch - - that I wanted to be one of those lucky pups.
Truly I was getting tired of running after that old bunny and I know I am not
very fast like the others, although I really try at times. I was one of the
believers that RETIREMENT was all about all kinds of wonderful things like soft fluffy
beds, big grassy backyards, the best treats in the world, and toys called stuffies.
The very best rumor of all was that each pup would have our very own human
to call our own and maybe a couch if we were really lucky. This seemed
too good to be true, but I had made up my mind so while the other pups were
training hard to chase the bunny, I dreamed and dreamed of the day that I would
go to a place called RETIREMENT.
It was on a cold winter morning, that I heard a lot of excitement at the kennel.
A van had arrived and two very friendly looking humans stepped out. All of us
dogs were barking and trying to see what all the excitement was about. Lo and
behold! All of a sudden my trainer was standing in front of ME. He said to
me that it was now my turn to go north and that I would now be a buckeye.
My trainer was quite teary-eyed, but wished me a greyt RETIREMENT --- Roo Roo --- My
dream came true at last! Now I am on the lookout for just the perfect retirement home.
I love everyone, am very playful, and hope that I can have toys and a backyard to run
around in. Did I mention that I am a very stunning boy with a soft rabbit like coat,
white feet, white on my chest, and tip of my tail? My favorite TV show is…yes,
you guessed it, Animal Planet’s dog and cat specials. My foster mom said I am
doing super and am now ready for my forever home. Of course, I thought that I
was already super dog! I made it to RETIREMENT, didn’t I? |
