Memorial Tribute to Sassy - A Very Special Girl
Sassy is running pain free at the Bridge with all the others of her kind.
Sassy and her sister Julia came to Joey’s at the age of 7. Sassy had a slight limp,
but the first x-ray showed nothing. A week later, the dreaded osteo reared its ugly
head. We had hoped to take her to OSU this week, but her limp rapidly worsened and the
next x-ray showed the cancer had doubled in size. Foster Dad Michael and Sassy hit
it off immediately and became fast friends. Sassy was a very sweet, happy, and joyous
girl who loved to play fetch with Michael – tennis and soccer balls were the best
toys in the world for her. I remember the last time I saw Sassy and she was happily
playing soccer with her foster dad. I firmly believe that Sassy believed Michael
was all hers. In her mind, she was home forever. During her short time with Michael,
she made sure that she lived each day to the fullest and with all the zest that
she could live. Michael and Sassy had a strong bond from the very first day. I am
quite sure that Sassy would never have left Michael’s house. Michael is heartbroken,
but knew he had to let Sassy pass to the Bridge on October 26, 2009.
Run Free Sweet Sassy…..Hoping there are a lot of soccer balls up there

Hello there! My name is Sassy. I just lost my home due to my human dad
being in foreclosure. I am not sure what that long word means. A nice
lady came to my house to get my sister, Julia, and me a few days ago. I
was very scared at first. I was told that I wouldn't be a good racer
when I was just a pup and so was given to my former owner at a young age
along with my sister Julia. The first couple years were very good, but
then things changed with my dad. We are now in "foster care." What in
the world does that mean? We love people and each other, having been
together all of our lives.
UPDATE, Oct. 17, 2009:
With deep sadness, we found out today that Sassy has osteosarcoma. Her foster dad is heartbroken and will be giving her a lot of love, treats, and just about everything she wants until her time comes to go to the Bridge. It could be a few days, a week, but, hopefully, weeks. Sassy is a very happy girl who loves meeting new people. Sassy has the most beautiful smile and is enjoying life at this time. Positive thoughts are needed for this very precious girl.
